Making International Women’s Day Count Every Day

Making International Women’s Day Count Every Day

As a business founded by two women and powered by a small but mighty team of women, International Women’s Day is very close to our hearts. A global day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, and more importantly, it’s a call to action - because real change doesn’t happen in a single day. It happens in the choices we make, the voices we amplify, and the actions we take all year long.

So, instead of just writing about it, we wanted to share some practical ways we can all support women, especially those from marginalised communities who face additional barriers. And not just today, but every day.

1. Be Deliberate in Your Choices

Who do you read? Whose music do you listen to? Or what podcasts do you listen to? Who creates what you watch? Where do you shop? Every decision we make - whether it’s choosing books by First Nations women, or following media created by women, or supporting women-owned businesses - can help shift representation and access to opportunities and help level the playing field.

We ❤️ Bush Medjina - an indigenous women-owned skincare business from the NT.

2. Amplify Women’s Voices

Visibility matters. Share their work. Recommend women of diverse backgrounds for opportunities. Give credit where it’s due. Whether it’s a friend’s small business, a female colleague’s idea in a meeting, or a creator you admire, lifting others up has a ripple effect. Many women - especially those from First Nations, migrant, disabled, or LGBTQIA+ communities - are doing incredible work but are often overlooked. Let’s make sure their voices are heard.

We ❤️ Deborah Frances-White - the comedian who hosts the award-winning Guilty Feminist podcast and live show.

3. Back the Causes That Back Women

There are countless organisations working tirelessly for gender equality, access to education and healthcare, protection from violence, and policy reform. Find one that resonates with you and support it - whether through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness.

We ❤️ Sister Works - helping migrant and refugee women find employment.

4. Advocate for Women, Every Day

Advocate for equal opportunities in your workplace and community. Push for policies that support women’s advancement. Challenge bias when you see it. Sometimes, real change starts with a simple question: “Why isn’t this different?” And most importantly, listen to women with lived experience and support their leadership.

International Women’s Day shouldn’t be the one day we think about these things—it should be a reminder to keep doing the work, every day. Because change doesn’t happen in a hashtag. It happens in action.
